Printers
Printing documents and photos accurately is a basic requirement for any home office environment. However, it's very important that you establish priorities to get the most value from your printer selection. Do you print mostly documents with little or no graphics? Do you print mostly photos an graphics but very little text? For that home or home office that prints mostly text and very little graphics a document printer would be the right choice. For those trying to limit the paper they push developing "Green" habits by limiting paper copies and using recycled products can help. Instead of storing business records on paper store them electronically on disk. Print what you need and save a copy to your PC in a PDF (portable document file) or other file format. Adobe Acrobat and inexpensive scanning programs like Scansoft Paperport allow you to print to a PDF file and store it on your PC or external hard drive.
As much as we think we are totally digital we still print and print and print. So choosing the correct printer can be a simple or complex decision. There are many type of printers including Inkjet, Laser, Color Laser, Label, Photo, Portable, Wireless, Dye Sublimation and more. If you print mostly black text documents than perhaps a monochrome laser is the printer for you. These are no longer the expensive beasts they used to be. A good B&W Laser can be purchased for under $100 and fit nicely in a small space. Toner costs can be very inexpensive especially when compared to their inkjet counterparts. They also have some big monochrome laser printers that can print up to 100,000 pages per month duty cycle.
If you print some pages of text but also like to print photos and colored text than an all purpose inkjet might be for you. These come in a variety of sizes and options including WIFI connectivity. There are also portable inkjets and combination printer, fax copier models.
Color laser printers are a whole new breed. Many small businesses use color lasers to print their flyers and newsletters instead of using outside print services. Color lasers do have their drawbacks as they can be expensive to service and toners are costly as well.
There are mini printers for labels, barcodes or receipts. There are also POS printers for restaurants and some can be USB powered for that consultant on the go. Contact me by phone or email for your new printer needs.
